Quirky Dublin

Quirky Dublin

Lucy’s Lounge is just as cool and far out as it looks– it has a basement where you can wander past a giant Chinese dragon head, kitschy decor, hanging mason jars and a whole assortment of bizarre art while listening to niche music.

Dublin is a vibrant city infused with plenty of charm alongside its historic sights. I snapped a lot of cute and colorful photos of things that caught my eye while exploring the city, from the quirky to the beautiful. I just wanted to share the things that made me smile, as well as some fun shops and food places to boot!

Street art can be so timely…
Unfortunately, it does not actually sell art made out of jam… but a cute shop nonetheless.

The photos above are from Folkster, the cutest clothes shop I saw while in Dublin! The pieces were stunning and vintage-inspired, and offset by lovely home decor. It took all my willpower not to buy something (I’m on a budget– sad words for someone so clothes-obsessed) but I’m definitely going back one day.

Competely understandable.

Here, you can see me transforming into a changed woman upon trying my first bite of the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. (Bailey’s cheesecake from Queen of Tarts)

The house (including magic garden) of St. Stephen’s Green’s caretaker!

Dublin is famous for its Georgian doors– these are two of my favorites.

Fresh’s spunky facade is a perfect fit for the funky clothes inside.

A nicely hued alleyway and chocolate wrapper dress! The dress was in Butler’s, a smart place to buy coffee because they give you two chocolates with your cup!

I visited a cool coffee shop called Accents. While the chai latte I ordered was suboptimal (apparently iced coffee only came to Dublin 6 months ago, and the chai latte probably arrived with it– if you order these drinks, you’ll likely not get what you’re expecting) but the shop was interesting because it has shelves filled with books you can read while sipping coffee. There was also a really large map (pictured above) that contains tacks representing where each tack-wielding customer came from! It was amazing to see the tacks cover so much of the world, from small islands in the Pacific to remote Siberia.

Snapped for the impeccable aesthetic.
An Always Sunny pun mixed with deprecating Dublin weather humor? I’m impressed, Kaph coffee.
When in Dublin, order Bailey’s on the rocks.

I went to Ryan’s Pub, an old Victorian pub with a gorgeous bar, cozy corners, and smooth dark wood surfaces everywhere.

The perfect way to end this post is with my not-so-perfect ending to my week in Ireland: the monstrosity pictured above is Dublin Airport’s version of a bacon egg and cheese sandwich! Imagine how shocked I was when I got this hard-boiled egg, limp “bacon,” thin-breaded thing instead of the gorgeous meal my American heart was so innocently expecting. Now, of course, I look back on the sandwich fondly as an endearing misfortune from a wonderful week.
