Missing Home While Discovering a New One

Quarantined in France

I’m delighted that my essay on my confinement experience in France was published by The Culture-ist, a wonderful online travel magazine. It is passionate about covering topics that inspire its readers to travel widely, give back, and live well. Check out my article at this link if you are curious about my reflections on togetherness during this difficult time.

  1. Hello dear Piper!
I LOVED your article in “The Culturist.” I am going to send it to some friends in Creative Writing and also Kim Spurr who works for the Arts and Sciences magazine on campus. She may want to reprint it!
Your pluck and bravery are inspiring, Piper! I’ve wondered how you’ve been faring in France. You’ve probably been better off there than here with Trump obscuring clear directives and guidance with his nay-saying and vicious tweets.
I’m doing well as are all my loved ones and friends. The University is opening back up in August, but I am lobbying to teach on-line another semester. Just don’t want to risk getting this stuff if it surges back come fall. Does Gen-Z really know how to social distance? NONE of us want to! I cancelled my puppetry class since it’s such a hands on medium and will TRY to teach it spring 2021.
Otherwise I’m writing, doing art, talking long walks, being solitary, waving at neighbors, loving on my cat, reading a bunch , cooking.
    When do you come home?
Your article was FANTASTIC and I’ve so enjoyed your blog.
I have a feeling you’ll go back to Lyon again and again. This is just the beginning of your romance with France. Viva France!
Hugs across the miles and keep safe and healthy!
    Marianne

    1. Thanks so much for your note, it means a lot that you like the essay! And that was so sweet of you to send it along to Kim and your other friends in cw. I’m glad to know that you are doing well and keeping your spirits up! And I hope the puppet class can be revived for next spring ๐Ÿ™‚
My visa ends the 20 of August, and I am planning on staying here until just a couple days before it expires. Things are starting to return to normal here, so I hope to travel for one month in France before leaving.
Thank you again, it’s so nice to hear from you!
